Coastal Patrol , The Oldest Voluntary Marine Rescue Organisation in Australia, was formed nationally on 27th March , 1937 , at the Navy's suggestion

The Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol S.A. Inc is a Voluntary Marine Rescue group Based on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia.

The Coastal Patrol was established in South Australia at Pt.Victoria in 1984 From there the network has expanded and the group now has Radio Bases at (Point Souttar-Yorketown), Port Victoria, Corny Point, Port Moorowie, Balgowan and Back-up Bases at Point Turton,Urania, Port Victoria, Port Gilbert And also 2 mobile radio bases one in Yorketown the other being in Port Victoria.
A rescue craft is based at Pt.Victoria with members own boats located around the coast for rescue work,
The coverage area for the group on Yorke Peninsula extends from Cape Elizabeth in the North, South around the coast to Port Moorowie, A distance of approximately 250Km.

The Coastal Patrol group is also available,at POLICE request, to attend any location on the Yorke Peninsula.,
The Coastal Patrol hold's a Marine Distress Flare Demonstration at Pt.Turton on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia on the October Long Week-end each year if possible,
The aim of the exercise is to show the boating public how to safely use a marine distress flare, at the same time showing others what a distress flare looks like when being discharged.These demonstrations help people identify a distress flare from a bright star, and how to estimate approximate distances when reporting a sighting
